1. What are the layers of the cosmos called?
The layers of the earth are known as the crust, the outer core, the inner core, and the mantle. The crust is the outermost layer which consists of slightly 10 miles of rocks. There are 2 types of crust, one(a) is set(p) downstairs the oceans and the other makes up the continents. The crust that is located below the oceans is thinner than the one that makes up the continents also seismic waves come across through and through the oceanic crust faster than they do through the continental crust. (Tillery, 2009) The coterminous layer is the mantle. This is the middle part of the earth. It makes up almost 85% of the weight and mass of the earth and is about 1800 miles deep. The outer core is the next layer. It is about 3,000 miles beneath the earths surface and is made up of liquid resolve lava that consists of mainly iron and nickel. And lastly the inner core is the next layer. It is about 900 miles inward that is going toward the center of the earth. This layer is say to be a solid ball of iron and nickel. (author, 1998)

Subduction is when one lithospheric ordered series is forced down below another plate into the mantle when the plates are moving toward each other. The plate that is thicker moves underneath the less thick plate. This process makes rocks break and move along the fractures and is known as faulting. The plate that is subducted moves in a jolt motion and this causes earthquakes. The place where this happens is called the subduction zone. This also forms an oceanic trench which is a deep, narrow dip in the earth.
3. What is likely the cause of melt down of mantle material along convergent margins?
