Many African the Statesns encountered many obstacles over the past carbon years. unmatched of the major obstacles they were faced with was not having the risk to actively participate in politics. Blacks mainly were not given the liken opportunity to vote so they could not do anything to move themselves let alone commute Californias policies. non only were they not given the equal opportunity to vote but, they were discouraged to run for offices. Blacks did not have a chance to win an election nor did they have any strong promote from anyone. Blacks were under represented and they began to realize they needed to do something to change that. Due to many blacks fighting and protesting for what they believed in, they finally received what they sine qua noned. They kickoff received the right to represent themselves in court which began with the 13th amendment from the U.S. Constitution, which eventually led to the Voting Right Act of 1965. One hundred years later, blacks were given the opportunity to represent their minority and vote. Later, blacks voted and had a say in the ballot box.
Now having a say in politics, they began to speak on behalf of their minoritys beliefs on what was right and what was wrong. Becoming more concerned with Californias policies, this then encouraged more and more blacks to vote and amplifyd the total number of the minoritys voter participation in elections. For example, about 60% of African America participated in the recent 2008 election which was a dramatic increase from previous elections in the past. According to Professor McDonalds question at George Mason University, Black voter turnout increase 4.9 percentage points from 2004. This is a large increase possibly ascribable to Africans becoming more educated about current issues in the government with the desire to be elected in legislature.
