After the Eight Oecumenical council the rupture between the two churches got bigger. Boris received an official letter with the decisions of the council and he aloof the Rome clergy which was in Bulgaria up to that moment. In Pliska arrived the archbishop Josef (who was ordained from the Constantinoples patriarch) as well as many bishops and priests.
The decisions taken in the 8th oecumenical council are a victory for the Bulgarian church and an evidence for the diplomatic skills of Boris I.
