The first thing that you need to do is identify the employment of the paragraph; which is rather you are going to be doing a summary ,Analysis, Synthesis, or an evaluation. It is important to know which style of written material you are going to be doing because each style will have a different type of content. Next you will need to determine who your audience is going to be. This is important because it helps you to association the line of your paragraph. Audience demographics, education, prior knowledge, and expectations are important factors to go through before writing a paragraph. After you have put your purpose and your audience, you are now ready to set a tone to your paragraph.



The main purpose of setting a tone is to establish a connection with the audience, the author, and the subject ultimately build a relationship between the audience and the text. Setting a tone is done by using a incident condemnation structure, word choice, punctuation and formal or wanton language.
