Diversity and Cultural Difference

Sue Yoon November 30, 2010 Michelle Stauffer FYS Leadershop : Diversity and Cultural Sensitivity I attended the leadershop on diversity and cultural sensitivity on Monday. The purpose of the leadershop was to take in awareness to encounters with people from different walks of life, and acceptance of diversity and culture. with a variety of activities, the leadershop allowed the attendees to look at their own personal prejudices and possible discriminatory beliefs. The leadershop definitely approached sensitive topics about nine and culture, and we talked in groups about the things we felt about the topics approached. The leadershop started off with a musical chairs activity. To begin with, we all got slips of paper with a definite identity on it. Some of the identities were police officer, pot smoker, and in high spirits school dropout. We sat in circles around a table, and the leadershop presenters sang rocky top, and when they stopped we had to consume a seat. Those who didnt add up a seat were kicked out. The leadershop leaders then asked a hesitation, and ground on that question, we had to kick someone out of our tribe, since it was divinatory to be a Survivor type game.

The questions they asked were along the lines of who would you non want to sit next to on a crowd bus and who do you find most intimidating. found on the identities given to us, we chose someone to kick out of the tribe. When the question was who would you not want to sit next to on crowd bus, we voted the person with the prisoners identity off. on with career identities, there were religious, sexual preferences, and lifestyle choices. This activity was meant to hold in us look within ourselves and see the prejudices that we hold, maybe veritable(a) unconsciously. It allowed us to step into another persons habilitate and see how the rest of the society views that particular identity or lifestyle.
