The author starts off by giving the reader a brief background of her lifestyle. She is a freelance writer that lives by herself in a secluded area in confederation Dakota and does a lot of traveling. Considers herself as a peace-loving soulfulness and followed all the precautions of traveling alone as a adult female; nevertheless, Hasselstrom experienced events over the lasts 10 years that changed her mindset of carrying a gun. She relives certain events that put her in a position of distinction toward the opposite sex. A woman who travels alone is advised, usually by men, to protect herself by avoiding bars and other dangerous situations, by approaching her car like an Indian scout, by lock doors and windows. (Hasselstrom 355) By being a cautionary person and a trained martial arts artist didnt eject valuable when faced against an ill willed men. I agree with Hasselstrom conclusion on carrying a licensed gun because no depend how gingerly women try to be in most situations they buttt predict what men will do or say.
Hasselstrom lived her life by being a peaceful and cautious person to ward of any danger; nonetheless, she experienced situations in the past years that caused learn martial arts, get a gun, and made her aware that men and women are not correspond on a physical level.
